Contest format and rules:
-
This math contest will be a team competition with teams of 3 or 4.
-
If you cannot find teammates or can only form a team of 2, we will pair you up will other teams that also need team members.
-
Three competitions, grade 3-5 , grade 6-8 and grade 9-11
-
Teams should participate in the competition appropriate for the majority of the team members. Example: if in a team of four, three people are in grade 5 but one person is in grade 6, the team should participate in the grade 3-5 contest.
-
We will send the zoom links to all registered emails a day before the contest.
-
Calculators are permitted but cellphones and other electronic devices are prohibited.
-
Each contest has 20 questions and is 1.5 hours long.
-
All the questions will be multiple choice
-
We will send the set of questions to the team captain’s email before the contest begins.
-
When the contest begins, participants will be placed in breakout rooms with their group. Whenever a team solves a question, they should ask one team member to leave the breakout room and message the answer to the contest host privately using the private zoom chat function.
-
Each team only has ONE CHANCE to answer each question. If the answer is wrong, the host will tell the team to move onto another question. If the answer is right, the team wins one point.
-
After the contest time (1.5 hours) is up, one committee member will post the answers on the screen and take up one or two questions while other committee members calculate points and determine the winner. After questions are taken up, we will announce the winning team. Whichever team has the most points will win $100 in total.
-
After the contest, we will also post the contest and the answers on our website.
